Seeking Optimum System Settings for Physical Activity Recognition on Smartwatches
نویسندگان
چکیده
Physical activity recognition (PAR) using wearable devices can provide valued information regarding an individual’s degree of functional ability and lifestyle. In this regards, smartphone-based physical activity recognition is a well-studied area. Research on smartwatch-based PAR, on the other hand, is still in its infancy. Through a large-scale exploratory study, this work aims to investigate the smartwatch-based PAR domain. A detailed analysis of various feature banks and classification methods are carried out to find the optimum system settings for the best performance of any smartwatch-based PAR system for both personal and impersonal models. To further validate our hypothesis for both personal (The classifier is built using the data only from one specific user) and impersonal (The classifier is built using the data from every user except the one under study) models, we tested single subject validation process for smartwatch-based activity recognition.

متن کاملThe Digital Health Companion: Personalized Health Support on Smartwatches via Recognition of Activity- and Vital-Data
It has been shown that in various fields of social life, people tend to seek opportunities to measure their daily activities, bodily behaviors, and health related parameters. These kinds of activity tracking should be accomplished comfortably, unobtrusively and implicitly. Tracking behavior can be important for certain user groups, such as the growing population of elderlies. These people have ...

DOI reference number: 10.18293/SEKE2016-040 Abstract—Activity recognition has been widely studied in ubiquitous computing since it can be used in several application domains, such as fall detection and gesture recognition. Initially, works in this area were based on research-only devices (bodyworn sensors). However, with advances in mobile computing, current research focuses on mobile devices, ...
متن کاملO20: The Benefits of Increased Physical Activity and Higher Cardiorespiratory Fitness in People Living with Mental Health Disorders, with Specific Emphasis on Anxiety Disorders
Evidence has been accumulating for some time regarding the reduced life-expectancy experienced by people living with a mental illness. In developed world settings this can involve a two-decade reduction in life expectancy, whilst in the developing world the gap may be as high as thirty years. Whilst genetic risk factors and suicide contribute to this ‘scandal of premature mortality’...
متن کاملA Framework for Inferring Combination Lock Codes using Smartwatches
Wrist-wearables such as smartwatches and fitness bands are equipped with a variety of high-precision sensors that enable collection of rich contextual information related to the wearer and his/her surroundings and support a variety of novel contextand activity-based applications. The presence of such a diverse set of on-board sensors, however, also expose an additional attack surface which, if ...
